My friend Maren and I won the Fargo half marathon. Both of us. 😉 Unfortunately, no dogs were allowed on the course. I finished the race in about 2 hours and 6 minutes. Not my personal best, but faster than last year.

Note: This is a guest post by Tawna Whitford, who just so happens to be my boyfriend’s mom. Tawna and her big black lab Emma live in Washington. I was oblivious to the jingling of Emma’s dog tags that quietly announced her intentions for an early morning visit. I also missed the sound of her …
I don’t run without a leash in my hands, a dog at my side. Many runners do not own dogs. Other runners have dogs and they don’t bring them along on runs. Either their dogs are “too small” (although I’m sure they could still keep up) or their dogs are too crazy and pull too …
Ace and I walked a leisurely 2.57 miles today. On walking days, boy do we walk. We are in no hurry. There is a dog that we pass on most days that is stuck behind a wooden dog run. He howls and barks at us before I even remember he’s there. We can’t see him …
Happy Thanksgiving! I really am thankful for this beautiful mutt. I mean, he does look and act like a dufus most of the time, but he does have a wise, calming side to him too. Although I would’ve been happy with any dog, I am glad I chose him. Ace has lead me to so …
1. Getting paid for my time I used to work 10-hour shifts where I was paid by the hour. I could’ve easily done my job in four hours on average, one to three hours if I really worked hard and five or six hours on the really busy days. I know this because for two …
Dogs have it easy. They adapt well to whatever environment they’re in. The first year of my mutt’s life was not ideal. He lived with a family that kept him in a kennel nine hours a day, never walked him (not once) and never trained him. Even so, when I met Ace for the first …
I come from a family of dog lovers – my mom, dad and two brothers are all crazy about dogs like me. But while visiting my family last weekend, I realized that nondoglovers put up with a lot from their family members who do love dogs. Take my grandma, for example, a nondoglover who must …
What has your dog taught you? My mutt reminds me of a few things every day, like to always be forgiving, to listen and to have an open mind. He likes to try new things, travel, meet others and learn. My mutt is happy to start every day and lives each day to its fullest. …
In three attempts, I have never started or finished a marathon. These attempts included four sets of running shoes, more than 1,000 logged miles, $180 on registration fees, $60 on a training class, torn hamstrings, runner’s knees, ankle pain, blisters, nights where I slept less than five hours and a weakened pride. Many people have …
