Black dogs for adoption – Fargo

I do not know whether black dogs take longer to get adopted, but I do know they require decent photos to get noticed.

I volunteered to get some pics of a few black dogs with 4 Luv of Dog Rescue on Friday. All four of these dogs are up for adoption. I’m no professional photographer, but the dogs looked cute anyway!

4 Luv of Dog Rescue has no shelter and depends on foster homes, boarding kennels and a partnership with North Dakota State University’s veterinary technology program to house the dogs. These four were at NDSU on Friday. Unfortunately, they have nowhere else to go until they get into foster homes or adoptive homes (hint, hint).

I don’t like seeing dogs in this type of institutional environment. I don’t care how loving and professional the students and staff members are. It’s still stressful for the dogs. They don’t get enough exercise or things to do. It’s not the ideal situation for any dog. It beats the alternative (death in many cases), but I strongly believe in getting these dogs into homes.

With the help of a student there, we took four dogs into the fenced “dog park” area one at a time. All four are sweet, gentle dogs. Please consider adopting or spreading the word about these beautiful dogs. I will make an album for them on That Mutt’s Facebook page.

Sisco

Cute black lab pit bull terrier mix up for adoption 4 Luv of Dog Rescue Fargo Cute black and white pitbull mix up for adoption Fargo MoorheadSisco is a pitbull-type dog, and I have such a crush on her! I am hoping to convince Josh that we should foster or adopt this lady!

She does seem a bit timid and easily startled, but that could be from the kennel environment. Poor girl. She barked at me from her kennel when she first saw me and then crouched really low as I tried to pet her. Once I knelt beside her outside she was wagging and wiggling with that “Oh my God! I just met you, but I love you!” attitude many pitties have.

Sisco is about 6 years old, according to her profile. She reminds me of Ace because she has the same white chest and feet with black spots on her white markings. She also has a graying muzzle. And she is incredibly sweet!

She tried to connect with me by seeking eye contact, licking my face and responding well to the sit command. She was trying very hard to do what she thought I wanted. She has a calming energy about her, and I just wanted to give her hugs. If you are looking for a mature, gentle girl to adopt or foster, Sisco could be the one!

Flash

Flash the border collie Corgi Cavalier King Charles spaniel up for adoption

Oh, Flash. What a great dog. He seems very relaxed, possibly in a waiting mode because he knows this is only temporary. He doesn’t seem depressed, just a go-with-the-flow kind of guy. He was the only dog relaxed enough to accept treats. He ate his “cookie” slowly and calmly. He seems like a very mellow guy, even though his profile says Corgi/border collie mix! I see some spaniel in him. His calm, sweet, quiet demeanor reminds me of some of the King Charles spaniels I’ve known. He definitely has a long, Corgi body, though! All around mutt and very, very cute!

If you are looking for a dog to foster, he might be an easy one. I think he’d be happy to lie around on the couch all day!

Magnum

Sampson the cute black and white lab mix up for adoption

Magnum just came into the rescue on Friday. I will consider fostering Magnum because I can tell he’s an older guy who has seen it all before. I imagine he would be a nice dog who would be happy to lounge around the house while I am at work. He is happy go lucky without the crazy energy most of us associate with lab mixes. He’s a big dog, probably at least 75 pounds, but he hardly pulls on the leash at all. It breaks my heart to see an older guy like him without a big, comfy dog bed and without a family to love.

Sampson

Sampson was the first dog we walked, and I feel bad this is the best photo I got of him. He is a unique dog with bridle legs and feet and white on his chest. He would really like to get out for a run and stretch his legs. I doubt he’s a high-energy dog, but he is stressed from being in a kennel setting. He seems like a very friendly guy. I imagine he would do well with other dogs, cats and kids. I believe he came in with Magnum. They look a lot alike, but I am not sure if they are related.

How to adopt one of these dogs

If any of these dogs interest you, the first step is to fill out a pre-adoption application. 4 Luv of Dog Rescue’s adoption donation fee is $100 plus a $50 deposit that is refunded after proof of sterilization. If the dog has already been sterilized, the fee is $150. Before you adopt, you will be required to provide references and pass a home visit.

4 Luv of Dog Rescue is also in need of foster homes. If you would like to offer a temporary home for one of these dogs, the first step is to fill out a foster home application.

Feel free to leave additional questions in the comments below or contact the rescue directly.

Edit: All of the above dogs have been adopted!

Thanks for spreading the word about these wonderful dogs! Every dog is an individual and deserves a second chance at love!

The irony for me is I got both my dogs from the pound, both black pitbulls. We just thought they were the cutest. Greatest choice of my life. They freakin love each other. Peas in a pod.

What a wonderful way to help these dogs. Your pictures are lovely, and I'm sure they will be a huge help in finding homes for them.
