Cosmo’s big week – adoption applications, CGC test and 10th birthday

This is a big week for Cosmo.

First of all, Cosmo turned 10 years old this month! Of course, he does not look or act his age, and I am sure he has several healthy, happy years ahead.

But here is Cosmo’s biggest news:

Cosmo has two approved applicants to adopt him, and maybe even a third!

Only one of these lucky people will get to take home The Fluff, but that is not a bad problem considering Cosmo has been waiting for a home for almost an entire year.

So now we will wait in anticipation to see who will get to share his or her life with The Cos.

Not only does Cosmo have people lining up to adopt him this week, but he also just completed a seven-week advanced obedience class. This class was designed to help dogs and their handlers prepare to take and pass the American Kennel Club’s Canine Good Citizen test.

The CGC test is designed to show that the dog is polite and under control in various public situations. It tests that the dog will walk on a loose leash, remain under control when meeting new dogs and people, come when called and more. Cosmo and I have been working hard on these elements, and he is scheduled to take the test on Sunday.

If it works out for Cosmo to go to his new home before he takes the CGC test, that would be OK with me. I would much rather have The Cos get started on a life with his new owner than prove he can be a good doggy citizen. He has picked up some good-dog skills from his obedience class regardless of whether or not he takes a test to prove it. Plus, he can always take the test another time. It is offered several times a year in the area.

Cosmo might make one last appearance at 4 Luv of Dog’s adoption event from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday at the West Fargo (N.D.) PetSmart. Make sure to stop by and visit Cosmo and other dogs up for adoption.

All in all, this has already been a big week and weekend for The Cos. He is glowing because he knows I’m happy.

The future is looking bright for this senior American Eskimo. In the meantime, he is welcome to stay with us as long as necessary.
