Dog Shammy review

Giving my mutt Ace a bath is never an issue since he has a very short, smooth coat like a beagle. A bath takes no more than 15 minutes, and he air dries quickly. But getting rid of all that loose, black hair is almost impossible. Ace is always, always shedding.

This is where a dog dryer comes in handy. A dog dryer can be used to blow out all that dead, loose hair. Drying your dog’s coat with a dog dryer is one of the best ways to keep his shedding under control. If you take your dog to a professional groomer, the groomer will definitely use a dryer on your dog’s coat in addition to brushing.

Ace and I tested out the Dog Shammy Variable Speed Dog Dryer. The dryer met all my expectations, and I highly recommend it to anyone who bathes their dog at home. Ace was not thrilled he had to take a bath, but he tolerated the dryer. He actually found it relaxing once he got used to it. This was his first experience with a dryer, and it was a success.

How well does the dog dryer work?

The dryer worked very well for drying Ace’s coat, even on the lowest setting. Ace’s coat was very soft and even fluffy after his bath! This is the perfect tool to make your medium- or long-haired dog look extra soft and beautiful.

Does the dryer remove the dead hair?

The dog dryer was powerful enough to blow out tons of loose, dead hair. I used the Furminator brush on Ace before his bath in order to get rid of as much dead hair as possible. Even after a good brushing, the Dog Shammy dryer removed even more hair.

Is the dog dryer noisy?

I am freakishly sensitive to loud noises, but this dryer’s volume is very tolerable on the lower settings. Of course, the higher levels are louder, but that’s to be expected. See the video below to hear the dryer on a low setting.

I worked at a dog grooming and pet boarding kennel for several years where I was responsible for bathing dogs. We used old, high-powered dryers that worked well for blowing out undercoats, but the dryers were very loud and had just one setting – very high! I always wore earplugs. No earplugs necessary around the Dog Shammy dryer, though!

Is the dog dryer easy to store?

I like the small size of the Dog Shammy dog dryer. It easily fits in the cupboard under my sink in the bathroom. The hose is 10 feet long, and the power cord is 15 feet. The dryer itself is lightweight (3.5 pounds) and designed to be mounted on a wall or grooming table.

How much does the dog dryer cost?

The variable speed dog dryer that I reviewed is $167.77, plus shipping. Dog Shammy dryers range from about $100 to $200. The less expensive, basic models have one speed.

I have no complaints about Dog Shammy’s dryer. Whether you are a professional groomer or not, you can’t go wrong with Dog Shammy’s variable speed model. What I am unimpressed with is the company’s web site. Hopefully you can look past this if you do order a product from DogShammy.com. Some nice, clear pictures and perhaps a video could help.
