Meet our potential foster dog, Orie.
Orie is a black Labrador up for adoption with Labs & More Rescue in San Diego.
He needs a foster home, so I agreed to take him home for a “sleepover” tonight to see how he gets along with my crew and what his house manners are like.
If all goes well, we will probably foster him for awhile. To foster a dog means to provide the dog with love and a home until someone adopts him. More on fostering here.
Honestly, any dog we take in needs to be pretty low maintenance – housebroken, good with cats, kennel trained or at least good when left home alone.
We have high expectations (poor Orie!), but that’s why we’re just doing a trial. At least he’ll get to stay with us tonight vs. at the boarding kennel where he’s been all week.
Basic info on Orie
Purebred Lab, sweet around all people, good with dogs, neutered, 5 years old, up to date on vaccinations, a nice boy, used to living in a home.

If we end up fostering him, I will tell you more about Orie in a future post. For now, I just wanted to introduce him to you and also encourage you to try fostering if you’ve ever thought about it. Here’s a great interview with Abby from the blog Doggerel who fostered German shepherds.
If you are interested in adopting a dog from Labs & More, the adoption process is fast and reasonable. The fees vary but are usually around $350.
I’m planning on taking Orie to the rescue’s adoption event tomorrow (Saturday Jan. 17) at Road Runner Sports in San Diego if anyone wants to meet him. The event is from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
More info on Orie here. He’s listed under the “dogs” link.
Have any of you fostered a dog? What’s your top tip for others interested in fostering?

The actual shelters are around $80 to $150, but the rescue groups around here generally charge that amount or more. I think that is too much, but I don't think they care what I think :)
