Today I’m featuring a special lady.
Chestnut is up for adoption with Dog Adoption & Welfare Group (DAWG) in Santa Barbara, Calif. Update: Chestnut has been adopted!
Here’s how “Guess That Mutt” works:
I share some pictures and info about the dog, and then you leave your best guesses on the dog’s breed mix in the comments.
This week, everyone who guesses will be entered into a drawing to win a bag of dog treats from Fruitables! (More info below)
Chestnut’s foster owner Anna S. sent me these photos, and she would love to hear what kind of mix you think Chestnut is.
What kind of mutt mix is Chestnut?
The shelter calls Chestnut an “English bull terrier mix.”
Anna says her foster dog is about 3 years old and “a little too chubby” at 55 pounds. She is spayed and “ready to go home.”
Chestnut also needs very little exercise but will work for food, according to Anna.
“She will sometimes just roll around, play growl and zoom around the house. And then take a nap. I’ve read that bull terriers do that.”
Chestnut carries groceries and library books in her dog backpack, and the pack is also helping with loose-leash walking, Anna said.
“She loves to play with kids and is such a happy dog.”
More about Chestnut
Chestnut’s adoption fee is $250, according to her profile with the rescue.
Anna said Chestnut is crate trained, potty trained, good with all people and bigger dogs. Since she has a strong prey drive, she may not be compatible with “small critters.”
“She likes her walks and is content to play inside – fetch, tug of war, trick training. I think she could be a good apartment dog.”
How you can win a bag of Fruitables dog treats!
For a chance to win a FREE bag of Fruitables ” skinny minis” dog treats for your dog, just leave a comment with your best guess on Chestnut’s breeds. A “winner” will be chosen at random on Aug. 13. Must have a U.S. mailing address to win. The treats are soft, chewy and watermelon flavor. More info here.
*Congrats Jessica!
We don’t actually know Chestnut’s breed mix. This is just for fun!
My guess: bull terrier/American pit bull terrier/corgi.
*Send your mutt pics to Lindsay@ThatMutt.com if you’d like to feature your mutt in my next Guess That Mutt post. Check out the previous mutt here – a cute dog named Barney.

Staffordshire terrier mix. Perhaps a little cattle dog mix.

I definitely see Bull Terrier, seems like she could be a Staffy mix. She's absolutely gorgeous.

Hmm, no way to argue against bull terrier. The brindle markings remind me of many boxers I've seen (not that other breeds don't come in brindle) so I'd guess a boxer was involved, too. She looks like so much fun! I hope she gets a home soon.

Australian cattle dog! That was the breed I couldn't think of. Her build and ears remind me of an Australian cattle dog. Just had to add that. So I guess my new guess is Bull terrier, boxer, Australian cattle dog.

Thank you very much for featuring Chestnut!
Interesting guesses so far. She is a medium dog but very heavy and strong for her size.
I'd say definitely an English Bull Terrier, maybe with some Boston Terrier and Basenji?
Chestnut would be happy to win the low calorie treats - she's on a diet. :-)
