Mutts at Westminster? Well, only in agility

Is this just a way to get more viewers? A way to appear less … snobby?

Westminster said on its web site that it will be allowing mixed-breed dogs to compete in its first agility championship that will take place right before its 138th annual purebred dog beauty pageant.

Mutts of course can’t compete in the beauty pageant, which judges a purebred dog on how well he meets his breed’s “standards.”

I have to say I do love watching Westminster’s purebred dog show. I am the owner of an “All American Dog” but there’s something beautiful about each unique breed. It’s fun to watch them compete, and I do admire the work that goes into showing a dog.

I’ll definitely be tuning in to watch both the agility competition and the All Breed Dog Show.

I’ll be rootin’ for them mongrels.
