A couple weeks ago ThatMutt.com was nominated for what bloggers call a Liebster Award.
This is a virtual award given to bloggers from other bloggers, and That Mutt was nominated by Kimberly of the blog Keep the Tail Wagging.
Thank you, Kimberly!
The Liebster award asks winners to nominate 11 other blogs, to answer 11 questions and to post 11 facts about themselves.
I’m not really into that sort of thing, so what I’m going to do is acknowledge three of my favorite dog blogs, answer three questions and post three facts about myself.
To make this more interesting, I hope I can get some of you to also do these 3 things in the comments:
[check_list]
- let me know one of your favorite dog blogs
- answer one of the 3 questions I am answering and
- tell me a random fact about you!
[/check_list]
So, let’s start with 3 of my favorite dog blogs
Keep the Tail Wagging:
Keep the Tail Wagging is one of the blogs I check out several times per week. Kimberly writes about raw feeding, raising two sets of littermates and general life with dogs. I learn something new every time I visit her blog, and if you’re looking for more info on raw feeding or on natural supplements for dogs, I recommend you check it out as well.
Puppy Leaks:
Puppy Leaks is a relatively new blog maintained by Jen Gabbard and her shepherd mix Laika. I love Puppy Leaks because it’s such a visually attractive blog and the information is so easy to read, yet well researched. I go there often for inspiration, and I think if you like my blog you’ll enjoy Jen’s blog as well. Posts are on all sorts of topics related to dogs from training to care to the latest studies.
Chasing Dog Tales:
Chasing Dog Tails is maintained by Elaine Bryant and her dog Haley. Elaine also writes about a variety of useful topics related to dogs such as training tips, news stories, product reviews and tales about Haley. I have a soft spot for Haley since she reminds me of my dog Ace!
Answer three questions
These are 3 of the 11 questions Kimberly posted on her blog. I hope some of you will answer too.
1. How long have you been blogging and what is your inspiration?
I have been blogging since early 2008. I’ve always had the goal of becoming a full-time blogger, so when I need inspiration I remind myself of my goal.
I’ve been very lucky to work for myself since 2008 as a dog runner and dog blogger, but I’d like to finally make the transition to full-time blogging. My husband Josh has always been very supportive of this, and I also turn to other bloggers and writers for ideas.
2. What do you feed your dog and how did you decide on your dog’s diet?
I feed my dog a variety of natural dry dog food and homemade raw food. I also give him lots of cooked leftovers from my own meals, things like meats and veggies. On occasion, I feed him commercial raw. I believe a raw diet is the healthiest diet for most dogs, so that is what I prefer to feed.
3. What’s on your 2015 bucket list for your dog? Yourself?
I don’t have a bucket list for myself, but you can read my dog’s bucket list here. One thing I’d love to do is go on a relaxing vacation with Josh this fall where we can both totally check out from work. We have not taken a real vacation since our honeymoon in 2012, and he had to work during that trip!
And Ace? I’d like to spend a couple of hours just relaxing on the beach with him and Josh. We go to the dog beach all the time, but those trips are usually 20 minutes to an hour. There is a quieter beach nearby that is less “chaotic” where dogs are also welcome, but on a leash. I think that would be a great place to spend half the day together.
Three random facts about me
1. I don’t own any makeup. Not even a lip stick. I don’t know how to put it on.
2. After I ran my first marathon I got up Monday morning and ran 18 more miles with my clients’ dogs. And of course, again on Tuesday …
3. I got fired as a volunteer and foster home for a rescue group I’d been with for five years after I wrote this post.
OK, enough about me. Now I want to hear from you!
What are your favorite dog blogs? What’s on your 2015 bucket list?

Wow, I can't believe you got fired over the post (just read it) - you'd think that each & every rescue group would try to HOLD ON to their volunteers.
I only started blogging in August of 2014, but absolutely love it! I find my inspiration in my 2 pups Missy & Buzz, and thoroughly enjoy writing about our experiences together & the joy the pups bring to my life.
Until recently, I'd rotate our pups' high quality kibble & wet food every 3-4 months for variety's sake, and to avoid any potential allergies. I had been thinking about switching to a raw diet for a while (also after reading some of your great articles about feeding raw food), and just tried out Dr. Harvey's Veg-to-Bowl pre-mix. You add your protein of choice to it, water and oil, and that's it. The pups are really loving it, so we'll stick with it :-) --> I'm secretly hoping that the new diet will also help with Missy's recovery from her cancer. I've read several people's stories about how raw diets really helped with their dog's recovery from cancer treatment, and that they are back to full health.
The number 1 thing I personally wanted to do this year was start my very own dog walking business, and I am glad & proud to say that I just launched it! I was able to take over someone's clients, so the setup was truly perfect. Regarding the pups - we WILL be taking them to the beach this year!! I had been wanting to take them for a while now; they've been in lakes, rivers, & pools, but are still missing the ocean experience.

I'm excited for you and your new business! That is very exciting! Congratulations. Glad to hear you and the pups will be heading to the beach too. They will love that!

Thank you so much for the shot out :) That's so funny that you don't own any makeup - I knew we had a lot in common. I have a bag of old makeup that I haven't touched since I was a teen, I don't even know if it's "good" anymore, and I certainly wouldn't know where to begin with applying it lol. Holy cow another 18 miles after a marathon; that's just amazing. I had no idea about that post and how it led to you being fired; that's just ridiculous. But in the long run I'm so glad you were able to become a full time blogger; this is one of my favorites and one I consider a must read.

Haha! Glad I'm not the only woman who doesn't know how to use makeup. There are probably many of us out there! :) It does save a lot of time and money! Of course, I just waste my time and money on other things instead ...

I read Lindsay's original article following Lindsay's saying "I got fired as a volunteer and foster home for a rescue group I’d been with for five years after I wrote this post." I couldn't see Lindsay's opinion in the article content (I only read the entire article's content plus some comments.) wold be sufficient enough for a dismissal. It could be just a mismatch between the organization's policy with Lindsay's practice while working with that organization.
I believe that nothing is perfect most of the time in real life; People, organizations, policies, matters are all evolving. The more experienced one becomes, the more imperfection one will see; for example, I still can't find any flaw in Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky's Swan Lake music; and I am a novice of the classic music.
My best wish.

I'm glad you had a chance to read the other post as well.

Congratulations on your award. The best thing to do after running a marathon is to keep on running, especially if you plan to run another, but it is hard to do the next day. Good for you!
