Note: This is an open letter to a rescue group, but all responses are welcome.
Dear President, Vice President and board:
I am concerned by the high number of dogs your rescue is adopting out.
I know the woman who adopted “Mia” the pit mix from your organization. Had you done a home visit, you would’ve found out Mia would be spending five hours alone in an indoor/outdoor kennel attached to a heated garage every single weekday. She has been abandoned all over again.
I’m also surprised you adopted out a senior beagle to a woman with a 13-year-old poodle that is not spayed. The poor beagle went from a high-kill pound straight to an irresponsible owner.
Your web site lists a “happy tail” for a shepherd named Buck who is now “enjoying” farm life as a working, outdoor dog. Buck was dumped by his first owners only to be dumped again by his “rescuers.”
As long as your group keeps trusting the Irresponsible Public with so many dogs, I can no longer support your cause.
Pretty soon there will be no dogs left to adopt!

We went through Border Collie Rescue to adopt 2 year old Polly on March 2nd. It seemed to take a long time, but she is a joy. Then I adopted Misty from a no kill shelter on March 19, a 9 week old lost and found puppy. She is so much fun and very entertaining. We love them very much. This has nothing to do with your post, sorry. But we are so happy and overjoyed to have dogs again.

Wow, I didn't know you got two new dogs! How fun! And I know those are two very lucky dogs :)

Everyone, this is pretty clearly satire. It's also what a lot of rescues seem to actually believe. That makes it successful satire in my book.

I am a little confused. I've read your articles that talk about how to adopt out more animals and that it is ok if the home isn't perfect as it is a date better than death. I think the article talked about barn cats or something.
Anyway, alive and crated for 20% of the day would be better than death. As would being a farm dog.

Enjoyed the lively exchange! Nothing like a little satire to get people riled up!
